Then There Was The Time I Let My Feelings Hold Me Back

THEN THERE WAS THE TIME I LET MY FEELINGS HOLD ME BACK

Okay, it wasn’t just one time.

This transformational lesson, like most of them, kept repeating until it sank in.

🎬 I’ll focus on what my YouTube Channel taught me.

To me, if you’re a professional speaker, you should run a YouTube channel. Period.

Benefits include:

  • Clarify Your Message
  • Rehearsals
  • Audience Feedback
  • Instant Marketing
  • Newsletter Content πŸ˜‰

πŸ’” And, yet, my giant Enneagram 2 heart found every reason NOT to:

  • I don’t know how to run a YouTube Channel.
  • I don’t have the right equipment.
  • I don’t know how to edit videos.
  • I don’t want people to see me speaking.

That last one hit hard. I wanted perfection and feared public scrutiny. It’s because I feel before I act. My fear made me miss a golden chance to start my channel in 2020. Remember all that time we had at home that year?

πŸ“† Fast forward a few years and, full disclosure, while I was getting speaking gigs, there was not a lot of consistency in how I got them. I was coached and encouraged to create and distribute content. Consistently.

I tried other avenues like social media, blogs, and newsletters – but I knew that as a speaker, I needed to show people that I WAS a speaker.

πŸŽ₯ So, more out of desperation, I took the plunge. I hired an editor, took a course, and started posting.

The first few could have been better. Not bad, but not great. And yes, you can see those OG videos on my channel.

And here’s the funny thing: because I had to be strategic in my approach to videos and take action (sometimes risks) to produce them, my emotions balanced out.

🌟 I’m not “fixed,” but I’ve found balance. Just using one tool in your toolbox won’t cut it. Continue striving for that equilibrium in whatever you pursue.

ENCORE: MORE TO EXPLORE

A SPEAKER’S INTEGRITY AS THE FOUNDATION FOR CONFIDENCE

Speakers must care about their off-stage presence as much as their on-stage performance. In this video, I address three key elements of a speaker’s off-stage presence. Click on the button below to learn more!

ARE YOU THE SAME ON STAGE AS YOU ARE OFF STAGE?

Confidence comes from being able to respond to your environment. However, if we are not being honest with ourselves and with others, it is nearly impossible to have confidence and to lead others, especially as a professional public speaker. Click the link below to learn more!
